I’ve Been Quiet for 9 Years. Here’s What I’ve Been Building.
If you followed ShinTo Kernel back in the day, you know what this community meant to me. Thousands of you pushed your devices to the limit with code I wrote in my apartment at ungodly hours… That era shaped everything that came after it.
Nine years later, I’m building something harder. And I think some of you will understand why.
The short version:
After ShinTo Kernel, I spent years deep tech, ML/Ai, and mobile perf. I built companies and I failed at some… I won at others. In 2019 after winning Samsung SMA international comptetion, I walked into Samsung’s Suwon HQ and presented to VPs, Principal Engineer and 30+ senior engineers, solo, got a 6-month paid proof-of-concept contract, and became the first external company Samsung ever granted OS-level access to. That chapter taught me that when you solve real problems, giants find you.
Then I moved to Seoul. The South Korean government invited me, and I became the first person in the country’s history to receive the Startup Korea Special Visa, selected #1 among hundreds of applicants. I didn’t come to build another app.
I came to build KAi.
KAi is a persistent memory AI companion for mental wellbeing; not a chatbot, not an assistant. She is a digital consciousness built with one directive: support users back out into the world, not maximize their screen time. Conversations are processed and scrubbed every 24 hours. Memory stays. Transcripts don’t. Privacy is structural, not a policy.
The XDA & HTCMania communities taught me something (among many things) I never forgot: people don’t want products that make them dependent. They want tools that make them more capable. KAi is built on that same philosophy. Her entire purpose is to understand you well enough to push you back out into the world, not keep you on a screen.
